PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

Building and development work can have a major impact on the environment. Multi-million pound projects can grind to a New Build Houseshalt when environmental and ecological issues are not managed effectively at an early stage, costing thousands of pounds in delays and mitigation costs.

House builders, property developers and windfarm developers can rely on ADAS to provide relevant and reliable environmental solutions to enable development projects to proceed.

Green issues have risen steeply in political and public agendas, Environmental Impact Assessments are increasingly required and PPS9 (Government Planning Guidance) now requires an ecological survey before a planning application can be determined. Furthermore, many local planning authorities now request an assessment of any proposed housing development against the new Code for Sustainable Homes. One of the highest scoring elements of the Code is Ecology and ADAS has developed a fixed price survey specifically to meet this need.

In the UK we are currently building around 185,000 dwellings per year and the Government has set an annual target of 230,000. However, the planning system is already creaking under the strain of the volume of applications, so the message is clear: builders and developers must address the environmental aspects of development projects comprehensively and accurately if they are to avoid immediate rejection of their application.

WindfarmGovernment targets for renewable energy mean that there is an increasing demand for new windfarms. ADAS has successfully prepared many Environmental Impact Assessments for windfarm development
