… applying experience and expertise to a new opportunity
If biofuels are to make a positive contribution to climate change it is important that greenhouse gas savings are maximised through the creation of efficient and auditable biofuel production, processing and delivery systems within a regulatory climate that is grounded in robust data.
ADAS consultants are using the company’s long association with the agriculture industry to develop the production and utilisation of biomass and biofuel crops, including Miscanthus and other energy grasses, willow short rotation coppice, cereals (for straw or bioethanol) and oilseed rape.
In combination with teams of multi-disciplinary experts, ADAS renewable energy consultants provide research-based solutions to all aspects of the biomass and biofuel supply chain, and other renewable energy options such as wind-farms.
ADAS services include:
- Planning
Planning submissions. Finance. GIS-based land suitability assessments. Environmental impact assessments. Biodiversity and ecological studies. Producer groups and grant applications. Fuel supply contracts.
- Agronomy
Varieties. Crop production and harvesting techniques. Fertiliser usage. Control of weeds, pests and diseases. Supply of Miscanthus rhizomes. Alternative markets.
Biofuel production
Feasibility studies for biomass-fuelled heat boilers, CHP units and power plants, anaerobic digesters and biogas plants. Engineering solutions. Technology transfer and training.
- Research
Modelling yield and water use. Quantify and target reduction of GHG emissions. Nutrient cycling studies, catchment modelling and carbon sequestration research. Genetics and plant selection. Life-cycle analysis. National and regional assessment of climate change on land suitability/availability for biomass crops. Socio-economic assessments of renewable energy schemes.
