ADAS combines an understanding of the biology of pests and diseases with plant physiology to ensure effective protection of arable and horticultural crops, whilst remaining sensitive to the needs of stakeholders and the environment.

A key feature of ADAS expertise is an understanding of practical pest and disease management issues with an appreciation of the wider implications within agriculture, the environment and the food chain.

ADAS is able to bridge the gap between research and commercial enterprises by transferring knowledge to stakeholders, ensuring that industry benefits from the results of research.

ADAS services include:

  • Disease management
    Research and strategic consultancy on fungus, wheat blossom midge, wheat ear, crop pestbacteria and virus disease management including varietal resistance, cultural options and agrochemical resistance issues. Risk assessment, forecasting and control of cereal, oilseed and potato diseases.
     
  • Pest management
    Targeted pest risk assessment and management including habitat enhancement and biological control in protected crops. Invertebrate expertise. Collaborative research – for example, on insecticide resistance management.
     
  • Pest evaluation
    Risk assessment for key soil pests and diseases. Regular pest intelligence and forecasting services for a range of government and corporate clients.
